Saland Record: Education and Libraries

As Chairman of the Senate Education Committee, Senator Saland has made it his priority to enhance the quality and the safety of our public schools. Senator Saland has secured approximately $27,951,492 in additional grants for our local schools and libraries. This money has helped school districts fund such things as much needed technology improvements and defibrillators without having to burden the local taxpayer.

Throughout his career, Senator Saland has placed children first. Among his chief priorities as the former Chairman of the Senate Children and Families Committee, Senator Saland worked to make sure that all prospective school employees are fingerprinted and that a background check is scrutinized before an individual is allowed to work with our children.

Senator Saland looks out for our children and taxpayers. Senator Saland sponsored the School Accountability law which enhances auditing mechanisms on school district finances and mandates fiduciary training of school board members. In addition, Senator Saland continues to fight for mandate relief for school districts. Not only does Senator Saland sponsor legislation which significantly reduces costly and burdensome mandates on schools but he's also made it his practice to reject bills that pose any unfunded mandates on schools.
