Saland Record:
Environmental Conservation and Agriculture
The Hudson Valley is
one of the most progressive areas in the State, particularly
in the way we view the environment. Residents of Dutchess
and Columbia counties take pride in the scenic beauty of the
Hudson River, the vast farmlands and the local products from
the dairy farms, fruit orchards and award winning vineyards.
Senator Saland has sponsored several measures over the years
which promote local products and attract visitors to our
wine trail.
Senator Saland has worked closely with environmental groups
like Scenic Hudson to foster environmentally friendly
economic growth. Senator Saland has lent his support to
numerous environmental projects and secured $6,113,661 to
improve the local environment and promote the region's
agricultural industry.
Senator Saland has listened to his constituency on
environmental matters. When residents expressed concern that
the State Assembly had passed a measure to impose a mandated
cost on homeowners amounting to several hundreds of dollars
to test their private well water, he listened. Senator
Saland came up with a fair and balanced measure that
achieves the desired goal of testing private wells while
sparing homeowners of the high cost associated with the
tests. Senator Saland is working to ensure that the public
is aware of the potential problems of private well
contamination and has crafted a beneficial proposal without
imposing mandated costs on homeowners.
